, 99 % of commercial amplifiers are based substantially on the final push-pull class AB.
It 's a clean and efficient circuit, with an infinite number of possible variants.
Improving the quality of the signal (and its management in critical situations) over this "standard" is not easy, whatever one may say the various supporters of this or that technology more or less esoteric, if only for the tried and tested project in thousands of versions and millions (!) of specimens.

Among the technologies that I find interesting are:

- tube amps
Personally I find the differences are so evident in the sound "tube", but I did a few tests of listening environments certainly not appropriate (Fairs et c.) . In theory, solid state devices can emulate the curves of the valves (MOSFET), but surely there are many other parameters that can influence. Certainly they have many disadvantages "practical", including three fatal to the application in the project: the dimensions of valves and output transformers, the need for high-voltage power (difficult to integrate into the structure) and the low power ( the QNPS-1 have been shown to require a hundred watts, at least for the woofer).

- Class A amplifiers
A single set of class A would certainly be tempting, especially considering that the power should be distributed in five different modules. The problems are twofold: the difficulty of finding modules (at a reasonable cost) of the power required (the Marantz, in fact, remain in class until about ten watts) and the frightening amount of heat they emit. Even if
to tolerate the "stove" result, it is rather difficult to integrate efficiently the monstrous heat sinks needed.

- class D amplifiers
The so-called class D amplifiers have characteristics very interesting circuit, as well as being compact, require little space for the radiators, due to their high efficiency.
can drive low impedance loads and are available in various configurations and power.
Despite the initial suspicion, they're conquering vast legions of audiophiles, attracted by the simplicity of the project (the end is just a chip) and the supposed cost-effectiveness. On the latter there would be no objection to my Marantz PM7200 have cost much less than a kit Hypex, considering power, chassis, connectors, et c.
The only real problem is that they are essentially closed boxes: beautiful dell'autocostruzione ends, where the aim is true to "understand" at the bottom of what is built.

- amplifiers without back-action
Qulche time ago I had a little chat with Roberto Delle Curti, great guru of the philosophy of "counter-counter-reaction."
Technically, the speech seems to me perfectly, even if it is (for me) difficult to assess the effects on sound quality (lack of) counter-reaction.
is even more difficult for me to understand how a circuit "completely" with no counter-reaction (especially solid state) can be stable.
In fact, these amps are made with excellent results. Then it depends on the counter-reaction or extreme quality of the project, components and assembly, is always questionable.
A middle way, which certainly abhor Roberto, would be to manage the portion of the signal in a "conventional" (operational, back-action et c.), and the power modules without feedback. The idea is that the delay introduced in the chain reaction, and the "reaction" by the inductive components are most critical in the power, connected to the speakers.

I have discarded long this last possibility, because apart from a few "high-end" (unpronounceable costs and the usual rhetoric of the gold wire "low noise "...), there were no products to dell'autocostruttore flow.
Lately however I discovered that there are long forms of the LC Audio (see the Danish case ...), the Millennium XP (formerly The End), to test production.
These modules are available in mono many different configurations, reasonably efficient, and feature as an option (thanks to them ...) of a loop, DC servo concession to function at low frequencies.
The documentation is very good for once, and it shows that the product is designed for the amateur market (available schemes, bulk components et c.).
costs are certainly not those of the business models of the series, but not stratospheric.

So I think the initial size of the project based on these components.
