On 30 November 1974, Afar, Ethiopia, Yves Coppens, Donald Johanson, Maurice Taïeb and Tom Gray were found the remains of a specimen of adult female, which was called Lucy , apparent age of 25 years, lived at least 3.2 million years ago.

Lucy, named in honor of its discoverers song " Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds " of Beatles, in Amharic is Dinqinesh and means " You are wonderful."

Take the story of a little woman, Lucy, provides an opportunity to talk about the story of many women who, despite the inability to access the studies for environmental reasons and family, living and suffering on a continent that, when ' beginning of the third millennium, it is still in shadow. Highlights the huge potential, unexplored and untapped young women.

Reports the current situation of women in 14 African countries hold important positions and who have made the desire to exploit the intellectual resources at their disposal not only for themselves but also for the future of the country where fighting for the survival of their fellow countrymen.

Professor Levi-Montalcini has established a foundation in his name ( Foundation 'Rita Levi-Montalcini Onlus) which has as its objective the education el' start vocational training for young African girls with the aim of promote empowerment through education.

In particular, this year, at his hundredth birthday, the professor gave 100 grants to as many children orphaned African for their preparation for schooling.
