As a priest who celebrated according to the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite in the Parish of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary in Trieste, in dual role as spiritual assistant of the Friends of Music Luigi and Federico Ricci "- which aims to promote sacred music in all its artistic expressions in the context of its own and that is the Sacred Liturgy - and creator of the celebrations of the Mass of the Vespers and performance of the concert in honor of the Assumption 14 and August 15 last at the Parish Church and Chapel of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary Civic, I think is fair and useful to briefly illustrate the performance of this initiative to the benefit of readers of this site, which has hosted a wide presentation.
I would say that the first performance of songs, both in the Gregorian and in that of the polyphonic Mass and Vespers was, in my opinion, excellent and beyond all expectations during the Mass was performed the Mass "Assumpta est" by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, while the falsobordoni Tomas Luis de Victoria marked the second song of psalmody of Vespers; addition to these enforcement in national premiere, the magnificent Magnificat for eight voices of S. Aguilera de Heredia, composed for choirs flying, according to the use of the most prestigious choirs. Yet the concert, extremely rich and varied for the multitude of styles and composers produced, was largely successful in Trieste and other places where it was replicated: Ronchi dei Legionari (Gorizia) and the Patriarchal Basilica of Aquileia (Udine).
I still can not forget to voice my deep satisfaction - a result of a yearning for a long time and so well fed materialized - to have these beautiful and timeless works in the context for which they were written: the Liturgy. It is here, in fact, they take a coloring, a beauty, a unique and peculiar meaning, fulfilling a purpose that no agreement, however impeccable, can never meet.
Finally, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude, together with much gratitude to the excellent "Scores Vocal Ensemble" in Oxford, with its talented director, Maestro Thomas Primrose, to dear friend and distinguished organist, Maestro Gabriele Damian, who has so generously lavished on success of the initiative and to all those people who is single and in the field of liturgy and in that organization were commendably committed, in addition to the parish priest Msgr. Dessanti the City Council for their hospitality and for financial contribution. The artistic and religious value of the event itself, encouragement and appreciation meanwhile received, the availability of all friendly, the thick participation of the faithful - in spite of the inclement weather - lead me in the context of association activities, to repeat this experience in future years.
